Process

Process design is often at the forefront of all design and engineering work.

It influences directly all equipment sizing and specifications and indirectly the layout of the plant or the layout and weight of the platform topsides.

Starting from reservoir data, fluid characterization, production chemistry and end product specifications, our Process engineers define the Process flow scheme and overall design envelope. They then develop the “fit for purpose” Process design, taking into account all field operation requirements and project specific features (e.g. ambient conditions, accessibility, execution strategy including construction) and selecting the most appropriate technologies.

 A very strong Process expertise exists within DORIS, covering:

  • Gas-oil-water separation
  • Gas processing (dehydration, sweetening, compression, injection and artificial-lift)
  • NGL recovery/fractionation and LPG recovery
  • Oil and condensate treatment (stabilization, dehydration, desalting, sweetening), storage, metering, export and offloading
  • Produced water treatment and disposal
  • Water injection systems (filtration, de-aeration, sulphate removal and pumping)
  • Flare and Flash Gas Recovery Units
  • Utilities (fuel gas, air, nitrogen, heating and cooling medium, inert gas, diesel, chemicals, etc.)
  •  CO2 compression and re-injection
  •  Integration of proprietary process (LNG liquefaction, Acid Gas Recovery Unit, MEG regeneration and reclamation unit) and innovative technologies
  •  Difficult fluids (heavy, viscous, acid and waxy crudes, hydrates, CO2, H2S)

HIPS

A High Integrity Protection System (HIPS) is a Safety Instrumented System protecting an installation against an abnormal operating condition that could eventually lead to some parameters exceeding their design values.

It is an independent barrier coming in addition to the first barrier formed by the Process Shutdown System and the Emergency Shutdown System.

Protections based on HIPS are not conventional and require a specific development based on a risk based approach.

A very strong HIPS expertise exists within DORIS. HIPS designs have been developed for a wide range of installations and at different stages of project development. DORIS experts have often been called to directly assist HIPS Committees in their decisions. All specific studies relative to HIPS design development can be performed in-house, including risk assessment (qualitative or quantitative), reliability/availability calculations and Process dynamic simulations.

Flow Assurance

Flow Assurance is the ability to ensure a safe, reliable and economic uninterrupted transport of reservoir fluids from the reservoir to processing facilities over the life of the field, in any environmental conditions and under all operating conditions.

Flow Assurance considerations are essential at the early stage of a project when screening the possible field architecture options. The definition of the field layout, flowline and risers systems and other subsea systems is very much governed by thermal, hydraulic and operating constraints.

A very strong Flow Assurance expertise exists within DORIS especially using multiphase flow software. Our engineers have all theoretical knowledge and experience to define the field layout and subsea systems that will best suit client needs and constraints. Together with the client, they assess individual and overall thermal performance in order to recommend and design thermal insulation or heating systems. They are also able to provide field operation support to improve the safety of operations.

Safety

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) forms an integral part of all design and engineering work performed in DORIS.

All HSE requirements are duly implemented from the start of the design and engineering in order to meet the client’s expectations as well as all statutory requirements, with an aim to design installations that are safe for the personnel and the environment. DORIS HSE engineers excel in identifying and analysing hazardous events and in offering tailored solutions to help control, manage and eliminate safety risk.

 

Their expertise include :

  • Hazard identification : HAZID, HAZOP,SIL, LOPA,
  • Loss prevention: Safety layout, hazardous area classification, definition of Safety features and emergency systems, including fire water network and fire and gas network,
  • Identification and assessment of controls measures: SIL assessment, LOPA, bow-tie, SCE identification and performance.
